In 1848, the amory built a fire engine and guard house described as "An engine and guard-house, 35 1/2 x 24 feet, one story brick, covered with slate, and having copper gutters and down spouts, has been constructed, and is now occupied."It became the building that John Brown and his folowers barricaded themselves in durring the final days of their raid. 

You can find Casper, our black cat mascot, keeping watch from the tower, waiting for intruders.
