Constructed in 1833 at the Portage River entrance, Port Clinton Light House was active for more than 30 years. The light consisted of a curved, clear glass lens using a single kerosene lantern with a ruby chimney that provided a steady red light visible for six miles.
Now well over a century old, the Port Clinton lighthouse is an endearing reminder of the city's rich maritime heritage. At just 20 ft, Port Clinton Light is the shortest lighthouse in the state.
