Route 66, at 2,448 miles from Chicago, IL to Santa Monica, CA, served as a major path for westward travelers during its heydays. In 1985, it was removed from the US Highway System. But that hasn't stopped some enthusiasts to get segments of it listed on the National Scenic Byway register as Historic Route 66.
