This Amish keepsake, created from 3/4" thick wood, sets neatly on a shelf, wainscoting, or window/door trim. The front design portrays a school building from the Amish community surrounding The Cat's Meow Village in Wooster, OH. A description written on the back describes the Amish way of life.
The Amish community provides for the education of their children. "One-room" school houses are dotted along back roads throughout Amish country. The teacher is selected from the community, and is responsible for teaching 20-30 students. Subjects covered during the school year are reading, writing, spelling, English, old-fashioned arithmetic, geography, history, penmanship, health, and German. If you take a morning or afternoon drive in Amish country, you will come upon children walking to or from school with thier lunch boxes in hand.
