This lighthouse was originally built in Chicago then shipped down the Mississippi River to St. Louis for the 1904 Exposition. After the Expo, the U.S. government purchased the structure and moved it to Hillsboro Inlet for service as a navigational light. Marking the northern approach to Miami, it was the last beach lighthouse erected in Florida.
