Key West's first harbor pilot, Captpain John Geiger, erected the Audubon House in 1840. The tropical gardens surrounding the house is where famed naturalist John James Audubon spent time working on his Birds of America folio. The house was dedicated in honor of his visit to Key West in 1832. Opened as a museum in 1960, the house features an extensive collection of Audubon's original folio lithographs.
