Strategically located near the mouth of the San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz Island played an important role in the history of the bay area. In 1934 Alcatraz became a maximum security federal prison for which the island is best remembered. The prison closed in March 1963, but today more than 1 million people visit this National Park where they can take walking audio tours.
This ¾" thick wooden handcrafted replica of Alcatraz is designed and painted to reflect its historical features. It can set neatly on a shelf, wainscoting, or window/door trim to remind you of a special place you've visited or dream of visiting someday. A short description is written on the back.
