Every year female sea turtles swim over thousands of miles to reach warm weather beaches where they nest. Arriving on shore, the female digs a nest in the sand with her back flippers, burying 70-200 eggs. Within 6-10 weeks, the nest begins to "boil" and the hatchlings emerge in the cool of the night, making their way to the ocean. The temperature of the sand in the nest during gestation determines the sex of the turtles. Six different species of these ancient creatures hatch on U.S. beaches. To observe a female laying her eggs, "sit" a nest, or witness a hatch is an experience never to be forgotten.

This Turtle Hatch keepsake is hand-crafted from ¾” thick wood with a detailed front design and a written description on the back. It can set neatly on a shelf, desk or narrow ledge such as window or door trim. Group it with other coastal Cat’s Meows to create your own little Village!
