Early Sunday morning on December 7, 1941, over 350 Japanese aircraft attacked the US Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor without warning, bringing about a state of war between the United States and Japan. Although the Japanese caused massive damage to US armed forces on Oahu, they were not prepared to withstand the counter attacks that eventually lead to the unconditional surrender of the Japanese armed forces on August 15, 1945.
