The grey colored ribbon on this tree shows awareness for Parkinson’s Disease (PD). PD progresses slowly in most people. It is a neurodegenerative brain disorder where a person’s brain slowly stops producing a neurotransmitter called dopamine. With less dopamine, it limits a person’s ability to regulate their movements, body and emotions, and can often cause tremors. There is currently no cure for this disease, but medication and therapy may be used to treat symptoms.
Though Parkinson’s is not fatal, complications from the disease are serious. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention rated complications from PD as the 14th top cause of death in the U.S.
