The John P. Cable Grist Mill was built in the 1870s and was an important resource for the Cades Cove community.
Residents used it for grinding the corn and wheat they grew into flour, and for cutting lumber to build homes, churches, schools and businesses.
Situated in a valley among the mountains, Cades Cove provides a glimpse into the life of a thriving Appalachian town during the 1800s and early 1900s. Visitors can explore by taking the 11 mile, one-way Cades Cove Loop Road.
