A recognized landmark of the upper Great Lakes, Round Island Lighthouse sits on the west shore of Round Island in the Straights of Mackinac, which connects Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.
This square lighthouse was built of painted brick in 1895. It served as an active, manned lighthouse and fog signal until it was abandoned in 1947. By 1974, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and restoration began.
