The 20th mission on the El Camino Real, San Rafael was established in 1817 as a hospital to care for the sick neophytes suffering from chronic health conditions. The weather nursed many back to health, while local people came seeking religious guidance.
The mission's time was short lived as it was secularized in 1833. The present chapel was constructed in 1949 on the approximated site of the first chapel which had been torn down to salvage the wood.
Handcrafted by our small workshop crew in Wooster, Ohio, this replica is made from 3/4" thick wood with colorful details on the front and a little description on the back.
Look for Casper, our black cat mascot, on the front steps looking furward to your visit!
