The Log Cabin Quilt is said to recognize President Lincoln's birth in a log cabin. The red center represents the heart of the home and the pattern usually includes strips of fabric sewn to create a dark side and light side of the design. Many of these quilts were sewn and auctioned during the Civil War period to raise money for the Union Army.
