Drum Point Lighthouse is only one of three remaining screwpile, cottage-type lighthouses that served the Chesapeake Bay. At the beginning of the twentieth century, forty-five of this style lighthouse served the Bay area. Drum Point at the mouth of the Patuxent River received her new lighthouse in 1883. Drum Point Light was moved to the Calvert Marine Museum in 1975 and remains the focus of the museum's waterfront.
