Tybee Island Light is the oldest active light station on the southeast coast, and it is also one of the most intact stations, having all of its historic support buildings still on its five-acre site. Marking the mouth of the Savannah River, the first-order Fresnel lens is one of only thirteen still functioning as a navigational aid. The tower was repainted in 1999 to reflect the daymark scheme as it appeared from 1916 to 1964.
