Yorktown Victory Monument is located at 803 Main Street in Yorktown, Virginia.
A resolution was passed by Congress on October 29, 1781 to erect a monument at Yorktown to commemorate the victory of the Yorktown battle. Another 100 years passed before Congress appropriated funds to build the monument. The cornerstone for the monument was laid on October 19, 1881 during the Centennial celebration. The 95-foot star-studded shaft is ordained with 13 figures representing the original 13 states and topped by the Goddess of Liberty. In 1942, the Liberty Goddess was decapitated by lightning. A new statue was installed and the monument was rededicated on October 19, 1957.
This monument is in the Yorktown Battlefield Part of Colonial National Historical Park in Virginia.
