General Philip Schuyler inherited this family estate in 1745. This third home was built on the ruins of Schuyler’s farm that was destroyed on October 10, 1777 by the retreating British following the Battle of Saratoga.
Schuyler quickly rebuilt a simple home before winter arrived, and since then many additions had been made resulting in the current home.
Philip Schuyler was a member of the Continental Congress, third in command under George Washington, and an influential New Yorker. He played many rolls participating actively and supporting the Revolutionary War.
