The Key West Lighthouse and Keepers Quarters were fully functioning for 122 years before being decommissioned by the Coast Guard and turned over to the Key West Art & Historical Society.
Today, it is a museum with 88 steps to the top of the lighthouse. The first keeper in 1848 was a woman, which was unheard of during the 19th century
