The well-known lyrics to
American the Beautiful were written by
Katharine Lee Bates, the lady whose home
is designated as the  2002Cat's
Meow Club Gift House. The Katherine Lee
Bates Home is located in Falmouth, MA,
where Katharine was born on August 12,
1859. Miss Bates wrote her famous words
in the summer of 1893, while lecturing
at Colorado College. During this time,
Katharine joined an expedition to Pikes
Peak. Upon reaching the summit, she was
overwhelmed by the beauty that was revealed.
This inspiring view is still remembered
today in the singing of America the Beautiful.
